Frequently Asked Questions

  • Chevron down What are the best times to go out?
  • Mornings are the best time to enjoy the lake. There is less boat traffic, and it is generally calm. Afternoons tend to get windy, and due to that, there is a chance your reservation can get cancelled.

  • Chevron down Where can I go?
  • Wherever you like! We do not restrict you, which allows you to explore Lake Tahoe on your terms and comfort level.

  • Chevron down I have never kayaked before. What do I need?
  • During the summer months, dress to get wet. While we launch you and bring you into the water, you will need to get out of the kayak if you decide to land somewhere. Also bring water, sunscreen, and phone (we supply one dry bag per kayak). For half and full-day rentals, you may want to bring some food.

  • Chevron down Do you have regular kayaks?
  • Our kayaks can either be used with the Mirage Drive pedal system or can be paddled traditionally.

  • Chevron down Can I bring my dog?
  • Absolutely! We even have life vests for them if needed. Please call to find out what kayak will best suit the size dog you are bringing.

  • Chevron down What is that with the sail?
  • It is the Hobie Tandem Island, a trimaran with a single sail to enjoy those Lake Tahoe winds in the afternoon. If there is no wind, you can pedal it, similar to our other models. There are also trampolines on the side to put gear, more people (up to 150 pounds each side), or dogs. Even if you do not want to use the sail, it is a great watercraft for the whole family!

  • Chevron down Are children allowed?
  • Yes, they are. We do have a minimum restriction of 4 years old or 35 pounds. We have plenty of options for them to join the adventure.

  • Chevron down Is there a fee for the state park?
  • Yes, it is $10.

  • Chevron down Do you deliver to vacation rentals?
  • We do. Please contact us at 775.450.4757 for pricing. Delivery is to your dock or beach.

  • Chevron down Is that a SUP with pedals?
  • Yes, it is. The Hobie Eclipse is a new way to SUP. It has a T bar with steering, and you move just by stepping. It can also be used as a regular SUP if the Mirage Drive is not what you like. There is a flat hourly rate of $15/hour to use without the pedals.
